FAQs

Will my car be compatible with an Evnex charger?

Evnex chargers are compatible with all electric vehicle makes and models (bar a very small number of older models). The type of plug your EV uses (Type 1 or Type 2) will determine the specific charger model you need.

Will an Evnex charger be compatible with my home?

Our chargers are compatible with the majority of homes, and can be installed indoors or out. They can even be installed at homes with limited electrical spare capacity, thanks to our home-overload protection.

If you’re in an apartment, we recommend getting in touch with our sales team to discuss your options.

Do Evnex chargers offer solar integration?

Yes, all Evnex chargers have solar integration as a standard feature.

When enabled, Solar Diversion will identify when unused locally generated energy is being exported to the grid, and instead use this to charge your EV — slowing the charge to match the exported solar.

If a you wish to charge at full speed, but doesn’t have enough available solar energy, you can override this with our “Charge Now’ feature — topping up the remainder from the grid.

Where does Evnex manufacture its EV chargers?

We design, manufacture, and develop all our products at our HQ in Christchurch, New Zealand. We've been in the EV charging industry since 2014.

Do you offer installation, and what's included?

Our network of local, friendly, professional electricians is well-trained on our products and can offer expert advice on all of your charging needs. Following your installation, we'll provide ongoing support — whether you're an EV driver, business owner, or fleet manager.

Do you offer three-phase charging solutions?

Yes, we offer three-phase charging for houses with three-phase power — we recommend you chat to our expert team to determine if this is the right fit for you. Our three-phase chargers are available in tethered and universal socket options.

How fast will an Evnex charger charge my vehicle?

The charging speed of your vehicle depends on several factors, including the model of your vehicle, its battery size, the electrical capacity of your home, and the type of charger you use. We offer two charger options to suit your needs: a single-phase 7.4kW charger and a three-phase 22kW charger.

For personalised recommendations and to find the best solution for your charging needs, please contact our sales team. They’ll be able to help you choose the optimal setup for your vehicle and home.

Do Evnex chargers support Net Metering?

Yes. When charging under Solar Diversion, our X-series chargers can look at the total excess across all three phases to determine how much power is available to divert to the car.

What warranty does Evnex provide?

We provide a 3-year warranty on the hardware and a 1-year warranty on installation. Please note that the installation warranty is only available if you have Evnex handle your installation.

Are Evnex chargers compatible with my home battery?

Yes. Evnex chargers can be configured in various different ways depending on your preferences – perhaps you want to fill the battery from solar during the day and discharge clean energy into your car at night, or want to use only excess solar to fill your car and avoid discharging your battery into your car.

Through a combination of app settings and installation choices you can enable the behaviour you want from your battery

How easy is it to charge at home?

Once you've set up your preferences through the driver app, it’s as simple as plugging in and walking away! You can choose whether to charge immediately, schedule charging sessions, or set up to charge from excess solar.

For detailed information on how to maximize the features of the app, check out the Getting Started and Smart Charging Features sections of the Evnex Knowledge Hub.

What effect does home charging have on my EV’s battery lifespan?

There are huge range of factors which affect battery lifespan, but, generally, AC charging (such as you would do at home) would have little-to-no effect on battery lifespan.

What is the difference between AC and DC charging stations?

The grid provides power over Alternating Current (AC), but batteries need to be charged by Direct Current (DC).

AC chargers like ours supply AC to the car, where a small onboard inverter turns it into DC, ready to feed into the battery. This is suitable for places where your car will stay parked for hours, like your home, workplace or destinations (malls, supermarkets, attractions).

By contrast, DC chargers perform the conversion outside the car, which then feeds directly into the battery. With a large kerbside inverter, this allows for extremely rapid charging such as you need on a long journey, but the hardware and installation costs run to the tens or even hundreds of thousands.

Can Evnex help with installing EV charging in a commercial space or apartment?

Yes, we can help with business or commercial building EV charging solutions, including multi-tenanted apartment buildings.

We provide EV charging software and tools for facility managers and body corporates to recoup charging costs.

You can find more information in this article about building a charging network for apartments and facilities.

Should I pre-wire my new-build for EV charging?

It's definitely worth considering, as pre-wiring during a new build can result in a more cost-effective installation later.

If you have questions about preparing your new-build for an EV charger, take a peek at our pre-wire requirements guide.

Where can I install my charger?

Chargers can be installed directly on to any wall, or with mounting hardware for "standalone" positioning —such as a driveway. Our chargers are designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

They've been put through their paces in our testing environment — so they’re able to withstand even the harshest climates.

Is there a subscription cost to the software?

For individual homeowners and small businesses with a limited number of chargers, there is no subscription cost.

For business customers with multiple chargers and more complex requirements, we have paid subscription plans available.

Do I need a stable internet connection to work properly?

We recommend that our chargers are always connected in order to provide you the best integrated experience with your app, reporting and support. However they will charge while offline, and need only connect to our server about once a month to upload charging records.

Can I take my charger with me if I move house?

Yes, you can. We offer a decommissioning service for customers who would like to relocate their charger to a new location.

Please get in touch with one of our team to arrange this service.
